3 SEO Tactics for Small Businesses

Every day, small business owners are fighting to get their websites found on search engines. It’s a tough battle because so many other local businesses are also trying to rank well in Google or Bing. But it doesn’t have to be this way! In this blog post, I’ll share 5 SEO tactics for small businesses so you can outrank your competition and increase your visibility online.

1. Create Unique Content

Any SEO campaign aims to get your website to rank as high as possible on the search engines. The higher you rank, the more people will see your site and company and potentially become customers. But if every single one of your competitors has out-of-date content or keyword-stuffed articles that don’t help users solve problems, then all these businesses are fighting for the same spot. On the other hand, if you have valuable information on your site that helps users find solutions to their problems, then you’ll stand out from the crowd. For example, let’s say that I wanted to sell organic dog treats online. If my goal is to make money by selling yummy dog treats at a reasonable price, then creating keyword-heavy content about organic dog treats isn’t a good idea. Instead, I want to create content showing how my dog treats will make their dogs healthier and happier. So I’ll write articles like: “Organic Dog Treats – Why You Should Feed Them To Your Pet” or “How Organic Dog Treats Can Improve Your Pup’s Health (And Save You Money!)” or even something super creative with a catchy title like: “What Happens If My Dog Eats Non-Organic Dog Treats?”

2. Create Instagram Hashtags For Your Small Business Posts

Nowadays, one of the best ways to create and share content online is through social media. But it isn’t enough to post your content on Facebook, Pinterest, or Instagram – you need to include hashtags so your posts will show up in trending topics and get found by people looking for similar content. To do this, though, you first need to create a list of small business hashtags that match both your business name and industry. For example, if I’m selling dog treats, then using #dogtreats or #dogtreat might be appropriate. You can even try coming up with clever puns like: “My Puppy Loves Your Dog Treats” (with the hashtag: #puppylove) and “#BestDogTreatEver” (with the hashtag: #bestdogtreatever). The more creative you get with your hashtags, the more likely it is that people will click on them and visit your page.

Instagram hashtags are also important because they allow your content to show up in the “popular” section of Instagram. This is basically an area that highlights popular posts based on hashtags and time, which means that it’s like a “best of Instagram” type of deal. The more people who engage with your post, the higher you’ll rank on this list – meaning more visibility for your company! So make sure you always include at least 2-3 relevant hashtags in each one of your Instagram posts to increase engagement and get found by customers.

3. Optimize Your Site For Local Searches

Search engines like Google love to show businesses in their local search results and it’s one of the best SEO tactics . For example, if someone searches for “organic dog treats,” Google will display any sites or pages from companies within a specific radius of where the searcher is located. Because of this, it’s important to optimize your site, so all of its content and metadata is relevant and appropriate for specifically targeting users who live in your area. Personally, I like to use keyword research tools like Google’s Keyword Planner or the Moz Local pack to get ideas for what people search for in my area. Then I do a Google Search and see if there are any results related to my business (i.e., dog treats) that aren’t on my site yet. Sometimes, I’ll find pages from other companies or blogs that rank well for certain keywords, and I’ll add them to my dashboard to create content around the same topic and outrank their website.
